GM Food
Oilseed rape is the first genetically engineered crop proposed for commercial growth in the UK. It is interesting to note that oilseed rape is the fourth largest crop grown in the UK. Oilseed rape can easily cross breed with other relatives in the Brassica family, a common species in the UK, which includes the turnip and radish. Oilseed Rape is a favoured crop for bees with the obvious consequences regarding cross-pollination.
Whilst the benefits of Genetically Modified foods could be advantageous to the food supply of the World, not enough is known about the overall long-term effects. For now we should err on the side of caution and allow independent scientist's time to research the long-term effects. After all, it's our future, we have the right to know.
What to avoid. Soya and Soya-based ingredients such as Soya flour, Soya oil, vegetable oil, lecithin and hydrolysed vegetable protein, unless you know they are GM free also try and avoid maize-based ingredients such as modified starch, cornflower, corn starch, corn oil Avoid Margarine unless it clearly states it is GM free, and avoid oils which state "vegetable oil" or "cooking oil" on the label.
